When is My Due Date?

Congratulations, you are pregnant!  You are going through a magical journey now.  The upcoming months are going to be tough but rewarding.  All of the hassle that you will go through will be worth it because you are coming out of the event with a beautiful and loveable baby. 

Whether you had the baby after months of planning, or this was a pleasant surprise, you may want to know when your due date is.  There are many reasons why you would want to know this information.  There are also many ways that you can get it.

One of the biggest reasons why you would want to know when your baby is due is because of planning.  Having a baby and raising a child is a lot of work.  It helps out a lot if you can plan ahead.  For example, if this is your first baby you will likely not have a room set up for it yet.  Once you know the due date you can plan out the room so that it is ready for the baby’s arrival.  You will need to paint the walls.  You could do the traditional colors of pink for girls and blue for boys.  You could also paint it in a theme, such as the circus or the beach.  Either way, you will need to get this done before you have the baby.  This is why it is so important to know when it is due.

Another reason why you need to know the baby’s due date is because of your career.  Women get paid maternity leave in most jobs.  Either way, you should take this time off so that you can be with your baby in its first months.  Your supervisors are going to want to know when you will have the baby so that they can prepare your temporary replacement.  Knowing the due date is not only good for you, but it is beneficial to the company you work for as well. 

Now that you know why you want to know your due date, you need to actually find out this information. The easiest way to go about this is to see your obstetrician or gynecologist.  After asking you questions and checking your health, they will be able to give you a fairly accurate answer to your due date question.  Unfortunately, you may have had to make an appointment a bit far in advance.  In that case, you should find another way to learn your due date in the meantime.

The easiest way to find out your baby’s due date on your own is to use an online due date calculator. These calculators are easy to find all over the internet.  It is a good idea to find one that is presented by a reputable website, such as WebMD.com.  After entering your information into the due date calculator, they will be able to tell you your estimated due date.  You will generally only have to answer one question.  This will be when the first day of your last period was.  From there, the calculator will do the rest.

Even with the help of a doctor or an online calculator, estimated due dates are not one hundred percent accurate.  Instead, these are more of an estimation of when your baby will come.  It may be off by a few days or a few weeks.  Still, it is better to know this information than nothing at all.  Then, you can plan the arrival of your baby a lot better than you would without knowing this valuable information.  Be sure to find out your baby due date right when you become pregnant.
