Some Help With Pregnancy NutritionOnce you find yourself pregnant, there are so many things that you need to know to insure that everything runs smoothly. That is why there are so many books on the subject of pregnancy or when asking am I pregnant. They talk about things that you can do while you are pregnant to insure that your child will be as smart as possible. They also talk about what you can expect during every week of your pregnancy as well as the child birth. What they often do not talk about is the general nutrition that you get while pregnant. This is actually very important because what you eat and drink can directly and indirectly affect your child. Because your child is so important to you, it is best to learn as much as you can about pregnancy nutrition. This way, you will make sure that your child is as healthy as possible once it is born. Much of what you learn will actually be what you should not eat or drink during pregnancy. Generally, you should have a varied diet so that you can get as much nutrients as possible. Instead of learning what you should eat, you should focus on what is bad for you and the baby. For example, you are much more susceptible to food poisoning when you are pregnant. Because of this, avoid eating any meat or poultry that is undercooked. If you plan on eating this food, make very sure that it is well cooked. This may mean that your food will not taste as good, but it is worth the sacrifice. Keep in mind the due date as a goal for yourself. You should also avoid seafood. All seafood has some amount of mercury inside it. Mercury can harm your baby, so do not eat fish. Especially avoid shellfish and raw or smoked fish. You can have some seafood in small quantities, such as salmon. Still, you may want to avoid it altogether just to be safe. Caffeine can be very bad for your baby’s heart. It will raise its heart rate and it could potentially put it in danger. As much as you may like your favorite soda, substitute it with caffeine free varieties during your pregnancy. You definitely do not want to cause any heart problems for your newborn baby. You should also avoid unpasteurized cheese and any alcohol or herbal tea. Once you avoid these certain foods, you will also need to take some prenatal vitamins. These are vitamins specifically formulated for women during their pregnancy. They have all of the nutrients that both you and your baby need in order to stay healthy. Pregnancy nutrition is very important as you get closer to the baby due date. There is an old myth that women should eat for two. When they do this, they are eating for two grown people. Well, the baby inside you is very small and does not need very much extra food. While it may be hard, you should avoid too much binging. This has been linked to obesity in children. If you eat fattening, calorie-heavy food when you are pregnant, your child may have a hard time staying at a normal weight. For your child’s health, as well as your own, try to keep a relatively balanced and lower calorie diet during your pregnancy. |
