Tubal Pregnancy: What You Should Know

ImageNot all pregnancies are positive.  While you are very excited for your possible new addition to your home, family and life, there can be complications that are potentially horrible.  Still, everyone hopes for the best when it comes to their pregnancy.  They wish for a wonderful birth that brings with it a beautiful child.  That child will then grow up to be an amazing human being that you are proud to call your son or daughter.  Unfortunately, not all pregnancies have these happy endings.

One of the most sad of all is the ectopic pregnancy.  Normally, when a woman becomes pregnant, the fertilized egg attaches itself to the uterine lining.  It then grows there, getting nutrients from said lining.  An ectopic pregnancy happens when the fertilized egg travels elsewhere instead of the uterus.  It could go a lot of places, but the most common is the fallopian tubes.  This is more commonly called a tubal pregnancy.  If proper pregnancy prevention was not used and you fertilize an egg that does not reach the uterus, it could possibly get stuck in the fallopian tubes.  This is bad news not only for you, but for the fetus as well.

Unfortunately, tubal pregnancies cannot be corrected.  If your baby ends up in this area, it will not live through it.  Instead, there may end up being a lot of bleeding on your part.  You will know if you have a tubal pregnancy if you notice sudden heavy and painful bleeding.  This can often be mistaken for a miscarriage. Miscarriages happen when the baby does not attach properly to the uterus and it becomes expelled from the body.  Tubal pregnancies cause a bigger problem because the fetus resided in the small space of the fallopian tubes.  This can make you very sick and your status will be grave.  In these circumstances, you will likely end up in the hospital.  There, they will take care of you to make sure that you are okay and that there are not any lasting negative medical problems.  Unfortunately, they cannot save the baby.  This is simply impossible with ectopic pregnancies.

There is not a lot that you can do about preventing tubal pregnancies.  The only real way would be to prevent getting pregnant altogether.  After all, this is a risk that every woman takes.  Unfortunately, refraining from having a baby is not a real option for most women.  They would rather take the small risk of an ectopic pregnancy if it meant that they could possibly have a child of their own.  this is definitely understandable since children are so amazing and the act of child birth is an  event that leaves every woman with a sense of completeness.

If you find that you have a tubal pregnancy, do not worry.  Although you will be losing this child, there should not be any lasting damage to your reproductive organs.  Because of this, you can still have a baby after the accident.  If you plan for this, make sure you wait a while.  You will need to wait for your body to heal from the action.  You also should wait because you may need time to get over the emotional aspects of losing your baby.  This is important because, understandably, you will be devastated from this event.

You may feel that they only way to prevent an ectopic pregnancy is to look at pregnancy prevention altogether.  You do not need to do this.  You still can have a baby and you will still be able to raise a loveable child that will fill your life with love and excitement.
